How you treat a waiter predicts a lot about character. |
(ENGLISH)
According to an article in USA Today April
14, this theory called “the waiter rule” or
“the waiter theory ” seems to be one of
rare laws that most CEOs agree with.
Odland, Office Depot CEO observed all
types of people as a busboy. One of those
days, when he tumbled the purple sorbet he was serving onto the expensive white gown of an obviously rich and important woman,
the woman said "It's OK. It wasn't your fault.” in a reassuring voice. Even though thirty years have passed, he still remembers the woman's
kind reaction, and that was when he learned a lesson “You can tell a lot
about a person by the way he or she treats the waiter.” He says
"People treated me wonderfully and others treated me like dirt. There
were a lot of ugly people. I didn't have the money or the CEO title at the
time, but I had the same intelligence and raw ability as I have today. ”
Shaich, CEO of Panera Bread, also says he did not hire this candidate who
was very sweet to Shaich, but turned to amazingly rude to someone
cleaning the tables during the interview. In addition, not only CEOs, the
Waiter Rule seems to work with any kind of people, too. According to a
November survey by a dating service for professionals, being rude to
waiters ranked No.1 at the worst in dining etiquette. Lastly, Odland says
" Your value system and ethics need to be constant at all times
regardless of who you are dealing with."
I agree with this theory. I do not like to see those people who are very
rude and arrogant to someone from whom they can gain nothing.
( Who like them?) I think this rule is going to be a very valuable measure when you choose your spouse. I want my husband or boy friend to treat
all types of people with respect.
