Learn about Ethos water |
(ENGLISH)
I wrote about ethos water in a previous
post, but did not mention about how it
started. Let me introduce more about
ethos water, today. Ethos founder Peter
and Jonathan founded Ethos water in
2002 in order to help children in developing
nations around the world. Why bottled
water? What Peter says is that people do
not know about the world water crisis
compared to other issues such as AID/HIS. So they decided to sell bottled
water to raise awareness about it and to help people, who desperately
need water, get clean water. However, as a small private company, they
were never profitable. Though they donated about $50,000 from their
revenues, they struggled to raise the fund for clean-water projects.
Fortunately, Ethos had a big opportunity. Starbucks, which were seeking
to boost corporate social responsibility decided to acquire ethos water in
2005, and agreed to give 5 cents for every bottled water sold to the
water project toward Starbucks goal of contributing $10 million over the
five years. Now, these funds are directed by the Starbucks Foundation to
support non-profit, non-government organisations, and specific water
projects around the world. Those countries include Bangladesh, Congo,
Ethiopia, India, and Indonesia etc.
(Reference: ETHOS WATER HOME PAGE )
Ethos is a business, not a non-profit organization. Starbucks does this
for their image as a social responsibility company rather than for their
profit. However, this is also true what they are doing is actually letting
people know about the fact that many people need clean water. It may
be all about money, but things actually help poor people are also money.
Though charity without putting money in their pockets is beautiful, you
cannot raise enough money. This is the reality.
